PUMP advances issues affecting young and young-thinking people in Pittsburgh, making the region a more dynamic, engaging, and diverse place in which to live.
For personal accounts of PUMP's impact, check out this video (video produced by Justin Kownacki).
We engage the young professional in the issues that affect attraction and retention. We listen to your opinions then create programs, support existing programs, advocate for issues and educate the right people on what's best for our region.
After hashing out the issues at the first state-wide young professionals convention, ImPAct in September of 2001, conducting a member census, and holding a board retreat, the board of directors along with input from YOU the members chose two policy agenda items that have continued to be hot topic, agenda items for PUMP:
These are the two areas our members cared most about, the two areas where the young professional voice needed to be heard, and the two areas where PUMP could affect the most change.
Programs surrounding these two initiatives have included various candidates forums, tackling the city's fiscal crisis, connecting to taxi cabs, a trip to Washington DC to lobby for more public transportation funding, including high speed Maglev, and many more.
Other PUMP programs include the highly successful Pittsburgh Sports League, Pittsburgh's Next, 40 Under 40 and Member Events such as Happy Hours and Wrangles.
