Campaign Finance Reform

In 2004, PUMP joined a coalition of organizations committed to enacting Campaign Fianance Reform in the City Of Pittsburgh.  PUMP testified in support of Campaign Finance Reform at City Council citing that the concept of campaign finance reform as it is a positive step in making both the political process and government more accountable and accessible to all members of our community and that Campaign Finance Reform is an integral first step toward good government. 

In 2008, the Coalition reconvened to again support proposed Campaign Finance Reform legislation.  On February 26th, 2008, PUMP testified again at City Council in support of the proposed legislation. 
 
 
PUMP Board and Staff met with several members of Pittsburgh City Council to voice support for Campaign Finance Reform.  On June 3rd, Campaign Finance Reform Legislation was passed by a 5-4 margin in City Council.  On June 10th, 2008, the Mayor vetoed Campaign Finance Reform legislation at the City level. 
 
 
On June 10th, City Council was unable to garner the 6 votes necessary to override the Mayor'sVeto.
