On Tuesday Wilkinsburg School Board members will vote on the 2016/2017 budget. Proposed components of the budget include no tax increase and acceptance of the resignation of the current acting superintendent (the fourth since 2014), a position that will most likely oversee the 550 pre-k to 6th grade students moving forward.

The budget proposes that about 270 middle and high schools students will move to Pittsburgh Westinghouse 6-12 on a tuition basis starting in the fall, closing Wilkinsburg middle/high school at the end of this school year. For the first year, all Wilkinsburg students will attend the Homewood school, but in 2017-18, will be eligible to enter lotteries for Pittsburgh’s magnet schools.

The June board meeting will include the formal votes to finalize the budget and school closure. No plans are set for future building use.
