|PUMPed to Run|
PUMPed to Run is a Pittsburgh based morning running group composed of residents of local homeless shelters, and PSL volunteer mentor runners. Through the leadership of PUMP staff and an Advisory Board the PUMPed to Run program seeks to encourage sportsmanship, and a team mentality to help set physical running goals, promote confidence and encourage self-sufficiency. This approach will support active community participants in building a better Pittsburgh for everyone by encouraging our members to be involved in change and connectivity. We will ensure that everyone has a place, a voice, and access to information and resources.
There are four ways to get involved in PUMPed to Run:
1. Run! You can register to be a runner (or walker!) with PUMPed to Run. As a volunteer we expect an encouraging attitude and a commitment to attending soberly. All participants must sign a waiver and be willing to answer survey questions before running and at the completion of a running season. If you are interested in running please register here!
2. Want to volunteer but not a runner or walker? There are lots of other ways to get involved including, but not limited to, Head Mentors (see below!); Outreach; Inventory Support; Fundraising; and Recruitment. Email Jaime@pump.org and tell her what makes you passionate about our program and we will find a way to get you involved!
3. Donate running gear! We are accepting new and lightly used running shoes and clothes for our homeless runners. We are committed to safely outfitting all interested homeless runners before they run. Have something to give? Email Jaime@pump.org or bring your goods to any PUMP Happy Hour.
4. Financial support! We are grateful for any support you can give the PUMPed to Run program. Your donations will help purchase running shoes, running clothes, race bibs for participants to meet their goal runs, and an occasional morning coffee or treat. Donations can be of any monetary value you would like or you can think about becoming a tiered supporter:
Congratulations to our PtR Great Racers!
We had 4 participants and many more mentors join together for the Great Race this weekend! Our proud four, showing off their PtR medals for completing their first race, are all smiles after this fun and encouraging day! A big thank you to Fleet Feet for donating shirts for the occasion!
