2016 Glasshouse Happy Hours:
Join us as we partner with Phipps Conservatory to welcome back our new series of events for young professionals, featuring specialty cocktails, beer and wine, inspired bites, and more.
On May 12th from 6-8 PM, the first Glasshouse Happy Hour of 2016 showcased the Pittsburgh-sourced spirits of Wigle Whiskey, whose staff created a signature cocktail just for the occasion. Over 115 guests munched on delectable and healthy hors d’oeuvres provided by Café Phipps, marveled at a dynamic dance performance from Attack Theatre, and got their hands dirty with a fun planting activity. Plus, Phipps' stunning Summer Flower Show: PlayGardens was open for a stroll.
The July 12th event featured a Quantum Theatre performance of their play "Peribenez" and was hosted on the Center for Sustainable Landscapes' green roof and Tropical Forest Congo terrace. Guests enjoyed a signature Wigle Whiskey cocktail while they enjoyed breathtaking Oakland views.
On September 29th, guests of the third and final 2016 Glasshouse Happy Hour will prost (cheers) the season while enjoying the Oktoberfest theme. Enjoy German-inspired heavy appetizers, two beers from MillerCoors' fall collection, and the musical stylings of Madel Jager, a Pittsburgh-based Oktoberfest band. About Glasshouse Happy Hours:
In 2015 PUMP and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens teamed up to host a series of 3 events focused on young professionals. Each Glasshouse Happy Hour featured locally-made specialty drinks from Pittsburgh distilleries, inspired bites from Café Phipps, and dynamic special guests.
The first event, held on February 19th in Phipps’ Rainforest, brought nature indoors. Maggie’s Farm Rum served delicious cocktails and shared their unique story while Phipps’ edible gardening expert taught guests how to grow their own indoor herbs. All 150 guests were able to pot, and bring home, their own plant!
The second event, on April 9th, focused on sustainability and showcased Phipps’ Spring Flower Show. Wigle Whiskey served their delicious cocktails while guests had the opportunity to meet, and play with, Phipps’ rock star composting worms. A guest from Wigle joined Phipps staff for a brief sustainability-themed discussion.
On July 23rd guests enjoyed specialty made Wigle Whiskey cocktails and MillerCoors beers on the Center for Sustainable Landscapes Green Roof. A social media scavenger hunt taught weird wonderful facts about Phipps, PUMP, and Wigle in a fun and interactive way while guests potted their own plant and took in the beautiful Pittsburgh sunset.
