Recommendations for Obesity Screenings in Children

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has issued draft recommendations for screening children and adolescents for obesity and is collecting public feedback prior to releasing a final statement.The draft calls for screening of children six years and older using Body Mass Index comparisons based upon age and gender. 17% of youth aged 2-19 are considered obese and 32% are classified as overweight. Obesity can lead to other health problems so prevention is a priority.
