SUMMARY:50th Anniversary of The Fair Housing Act
DESCRIPTION:Join the Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations on Wednesday\, April 11th at the August Wilson Center to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act!  \nThe event will include a panel of distinguished guests who will discuss fair housing in Pittsburgh. They will focus on where the city has been and where we’re going. The event is free and open to the public\, but requires registration. \nKeynote Speaker: Dr. Alvin Pearman\, University of Pittsburgh\, Center for Urban Education \nLearn more about the event. More details to come. \n  \nThe Fair Housing Act is a federal act in the United States that was enacted as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 and “protects people from discrimination when they are renting\, buying\, or securing financing for any housing.” In its current form\, the act prohibits housing discrimination on the basis of race\, color\, religion\, national origin\, sex\, disability\, and familial status. The Pittsburgh City Code includes these bases and also prohibits discrimination because of sexual orientation\, gender identity/expression\, and status as a survivor of domestic violence. \nIf you require a translator or accommodation for a disability\, please contact the Commission on Human Relations at 412-255-2600.
