The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, with funding from the Colcom Foundation, has installed the first ever free chilled water dispenser in the US in Pittsburgh’s downtown Cultural District. The Water Cube serves chilled still and sparkling water for passersby to refill their water bottles as well as provides 2 drinking water fountains. This is the latest installation of functional public art by the Trust following the 11 artistic bike racks installed in 2015. The goal of the project is to make water accessible to people spending time in the Cultural District while reducing negative environmental impacts of non-reusable drink containers.
