Rebecca Mercatoris will be the first director of Allegheny County’s new Department of Children Initiatives.

The department was created in the 2021 County budget, which granted it $443,476 in “year zero” funding.

Rebecca Mercatoris “previously worked for the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Child Care and the Child Care State Capacity Building Center. She holds a master’s degree in public policy and management from the University of Pittsburgh” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
