After an 8-month search process that included a public comment period, Pittsburgh Public Schools announced the hiring of a new superintendent to replace Dr. Linda Lane at the end of her current contract period. Dr. Anthony Hamlet was extended a five year contract at a special meeting of the school board on May 18. Dr. Hamlet brings a diversity of experience to this position. He most recently served as director of accountability transformation for the Palm Beach County School District in Florida, the 11th largest district in the country. He has also served as a high school principal, a middle school principal, an alternative education school principal, a high school teacher, a behavioral specialist, and a professional football player for the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts.
