PUMP Supports PA Fairness Act to Expand Anti-Discrimination Protections for LGBTQIA+ Community

PUMP Author Advocacy, Diverse + Connected Region, Opportunities for Success

PUMP has been working with the ACLU of Pennsylvania on the best tactics to support the PA Fairness Act, which extends anti-discrimination protections to include sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. The Act has been introduced in the PA Senate as Senate Bill 613 and in the House as House Bill 1410.

Currently in Pennsylvania there are no non-discrimination laws that protect LGBTQIA+ individuals in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, or credit. Pennsylvania does have a state law that protects state employees from discrimination on the basis of their status as LGBT, but that does not protect all others who do not work for the state. 27 U.S. states lack non-discrimination laws to protect LGBTQIA+ individuals in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, or credit.

There is currently no action on Senate Bill 613 or House Bill 1410, but we remain strong advocates for this legislation. You can contact your legislators and show your support for the PA Fairness Act through the ACLU of Pennsylvania’s petition.
