After 3 days of soccer and 51 total games, Uzbekistan emerged as the 2017 Champions of the Steel City World Cup following a hard fought 5-4 win over Bosnia in the finals. New to this year’s tournament, Uzbekistan was awarded the number one seed in the knock-out rounds after finishing first in Group D ahead of Ireland, Spain, Nigeria, and Germany. They completed their run through the tournament with wins over Bhutan, Cameroon, Italy, and Bosnia in the finals.

Bosnia, a returning team and number two seed after Group Stage games, also had a great run in the tournament with wins over India, Cameroon, and Saudi Arabia in the knock-out rounds to reach the championship match. The final match was close the entire way and featured several highlight reel goals from both sides. In total, over 500 participants and spectators attended the tournament and festival activities.

We’d like to extend a special thanks to our tournament partners and sponsors – BNY Mellon, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Pittsburgh Soccer in the Community, and Welcoming Pittsburgh.

We’d also like to thank our festival entertainers and vendors – Latin American Cultural Union, Yamoussa Camara Drum and Dance, Treasures of Africa, Pandemic, I Love Caribbean Delight, Lydia’s Coffee House, La Palapa, and Pastitsio.

Congratulations and thank you to all who participated!
