Freedom Seekers: Underground Railroad Tour
Pittsburgh was an important stop for hundreds of freedom-seeking slaves heading North in the years before the Civil War, providing a hidden network of safe houses and sympathizers created by prominent city leaders, both Black and white, functioning as Pittsburgh’s Underground Railroad.
DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh shows you the very trails that freedom seekers followed through the woods by night and the cramped underground tunnels they may have traveled by day.
