Each month we are going to take the time to get to know one of our PSL officials better. This is a great way to know the person who dedicates their free time to umpiring or refereeing your games.

Our October PSL Official of the Month is Jess! Get to know Jess better and be sure to say hi to her at your next PSL game.

How long have you been officiating with PSL? 4 years

Which sports do I officiate? Softball and Flag Football

What is my favorite officiating memory? I have had so many great experiences with teams over the years, but if I had to pick one- it would be the bad/good moment at Bloomfield. I was setting up the field and my engagement ring must have fallen off. When I realized and said it out loud, without hesitation BOTH teams started searching and crawling and digging. A player found it by first base and instantly brought tears to my eyes. It was a great feeling of mutual respect between the game, players, and umpire.

What do I do for a living? By trade, I am a Teacher and currently working at UPMC Insurance Division. I am also a bartender at my family owned “McArdle’s Pub” in the South Side and a humbled PSL Umpire!

Why did I decide to officiate for PSL? I decided to officiate because I try to be involved in the community as much as possible. PUMP/PSL has brought so many new things to our city and helps ti make our city a wonderful place to live. I love sports and love the great people I meet every season. The networking and connections I have made over the years are irreplaceable.

Anything you would like to share about yourself with the PSL community? I play PSL Softball for Team Brewskis. I play rugby with the Pittsburgh Forge. I am a craft-aholic, a furmom, and my wife and I are expecting our first child in December!
