Each month we are going to take the time to get to know one of our PSL officials better. This is a great way to know the person who dedicates their free time to umpiring or refereeing your games.
Our September PSL Official of the Month is Mike! Get to know Mike better and be sure to say hi to him at your next PSL game.
How long have you been officiating with PSL? I started officiating for PSL in 2017, took a break, and then started again in summer 2019.
Which sports do I officiate? I’m currently officiating softball, kickball, and flag football, and I’ve also done dodgeball in the past.
What is my favorite officiating memory? I don’t know that I have one favorite memory that stands out yet but I really to have fun and joke with all the teams. I think it adds to their PSL experience. I get hype when I see teams win a championship since I’ve made friends with the teams. Seeing their joy and excitement gets me pumped.
What do I do for a living? Right now I’m a financial analyst but I’ve always done some out of the ordinary things for work. I’ve been a PIAA official for high school baseball, driven a pedicab in the North Shore for games, and been a semi-professional poker player.
Why did I decide to officiate for PSL? Playing and being around sports is by far my biggest hobby. I thought it would be a fun way to stay active, make some friends, and make a couple of extra bucks on the side.
Anything you would like to share about yourself with the PSL community? In addition to officiating, I like to play softball and ice hockey and hang out with my two baby nephews.
