Pittsburgh Public Schools is plans to vote on an anti-discrimination policy regarding transgender students on June 22. Public meetings have been held in order to discuss the issue. Much of the debate focuses on the use of bathrooms and locker rooms, but other potentially discriminatory policies regarding clothing, pronouns, and names are also included. 

Transgender rights are being discussed nationwide as states and communities throughout the nation pass policies that require the use of public bathrooms corresponding to individuals’ sex on their birth certificates as opposed to their current gender identity. 

Pine-Richland School District is also considering a nondiscrimination policy for transgender students. Multiple districts in Montgomery County are the first in Pennsylvania to pass or vote on similar policies.
