Pittsburgh Public Schools recently announced a groundbreaking initiative to transform several local schools into hubs that provide dual educations and social services. Initially, the schools selected would tap into existing resources to generate community focused programming and services. After the program has been executed for a length of time, schools hope to evolve from the established programs to provide a more comprehensive set of services that could be utilized broadly by all members of the community, like medical care and adult educational curriculum. If students can have internal support for external needs, there will be a higher chance that the students will stay focused on their academics and will positively view their schools as holistic facilities to serve them in learning and in life.
