Draw the Lines: Virtual PA Map Day
April 14, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
PA Map Day
We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. COVID-19 prompted Draw the Lines to cancel PA Map Day at the State Capitol last month. However, as we battle this major public health crisis, we also don’t want to lose sight of how our democracy should function after we return to normalcy.
So we are holding a virtual PA Map Day program at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14.
PA Map Day has two purposes: (1) Highlight the amazing citizen mappers who’ve excelled in DTL’s most recent competition; and (2) Rally Pennsylvanians to stick with the fight to slay the gerrymander and protect democracy in our state.
During the one-hour virtual event, we’ll reveal our Fall 2019 state champions and runners-up in three divisions – youth, higher education and adult – and three mapping categories – congressional maps, state Senate and state House. For their remarkable, inspiring work, they’ll win prizes ranging from $250 to $5,000.
You’ll hear from the champs, as well as other leaders in the fight for redistricting reform: state Reps. Jim Gregory (R-Blair) and Steve Samuelson (D-Northampton); Amanda Holt, the original citizen mapper/activist; and David Thornburgh, chair of the state redistricting reform commission.
Registration is requested on Eventbrite. Before the event, we’ll send you an invite to a Zoom conference room. (All you’ll need to do beforehand is download Zoom to your computer or device and click on the link we send you.)
