Slay the Gerrymander Run & Bar Games

March 8, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Two days after the City Council District 8 special election, join PUMP, Draw the Lines PA, and Fair Districts PA for a special evening of running and bar games.

Join the PSL Running Club for a special run around the Pittsburgh City Council District 8 to see what shape that district is. More details about the specific run will be posted here by Monday, March 5. If you enjoy the run, you can join any Thursday for a 3, 4 or 6 mile run with a fun group of folks. FREE

and/or

Join in on some fun bar games to see how legislative districts are created and Slay the Gerrymander. Pennsylvania has a new congressional map for now, but the root of the problem still exists: politicians and judges are drawing the lines instead of voters. And as we’ve seen, politicians are very good at gerrymandering to protect their own interests. We want to bring hilarity and competition to a serious topic. Compete in the online hit “The Redistricting Game.” Try your hand at government quizzo. Put PA’s congressional district map together yourself. Plus many more. We’ll have prizes for competition winners. Get out your tools – we’re going to map a fix to the bug in the operating system of democracy! Get all the gerrymandering games you can handle, prizes for winners, food, information on how to participate in the upcoming Draw the Lines map drawing competition that includes numerous ca$h prize$, and of course the opportunity to meet new people and have fun. $5 or Free for volunteers (email jvillere@seventy.org to sign up to volunteer)

PUMP MEMBERS-ONLY BONUS: one FREE Blue Moon or MillerLite

Runners meet at The Urban Tap Shadyside at 6:15 for a 6:30 run. 3, 4, and 6 mile distances are included in the provided maps. Then join us back at the bar after the run to play some games, drink some beer, and eat if interested. *NOTE: there will be no facilitated discussion about legislative districts or gerrymandering on the run. It’s just good exercise.

Non-runners meet at  The Urban Tap Shadyside anytime 6:30-8:00pm. Pre-register to ensure we have enough food for all attendees to enjoy!
