PSL Attendence at City’s Capital Budget Meeting
June 8, 2017 @ 6:00 pm
Capital Budget Meeting
A Capital Budget is the city’s budget that allocates money for a fiscal year for the acquisition or maintenance of fixed assets, such as land, buildings and equipment. Each June the city of Pittsburgh hosts two Capital Budget Deliberative Forums as part of the City’s Capital Budget development process. The hearings follow a format that gives residents the chance to learn more about what goes into the Capital Budget, allows attendees to discuss needs and priorities in a small-group setting, and ask questions of an expert panel. Residents also have the chance to let the city know of specific Capital work in their neighborhoods that they would like to see done in 2017 and 2018.
This year there are two meetings and the PSL plans to attend the first meeting on Thursday June 8th in Brookline. If you are interested and cannot attend there is a second meeting on Wednesday June 14th at Third Presbyterian Church in Shadyside. Learn more about the meetings here.
Refreshments are provided at the meetings.
Our Role
Often feedback from our players and participants are things that are largely out of our control and focus on field improvements. We would like to use our collectively strong PSL voice to let the city know that we would like money allocated in the budget for field improvements and general maintenance. Specific requests will include budget money for the purchase of dirt to be used at PSL fields throughout the city (Gardner, Spring Hill, Mellon Park, Olympia, McKinley, Chartiers, Dilworth and more) and for general maintenance at the fields we use (bathroom facilities, benches, complete backstops, etc.).
PSL Plan for Attending
We would love to have as many PSLers as possible join us on June 8th to attend this Capital Budget Meeting as a collective group. If you would like to join us please meet outside of the Tree of Life Church (1036 Brookline Blvd) at 5:45 pm on June 8th. We ask that you wear a PSL shirt. If you don’t have one please email Jaime and she will bring you one (we just need your shirt size). Although all attendees are welcome to join us the city has stated that they are interested in hearing from City Residents.
At the end of the meeting there will be a survey provided by the City that we encourage everyone to stay and fill out. This information is shared directly with the people who make the final decisions for all budget requests and may be our best chance to have our voices heard.
Can’t make it, but want your voice heard?
This is a chance for us to advocate for you as a PSL participant. If you cannot attend and are interested in sharing your opinion with us please email Jaime and we will do our best to share your concerns at the meeting. You may also fill out this form to share your ideas if you cannot make it to the meeting directly.
The city requests that you RSVP through this link before you attend.
